Canada’s foremost province representing investment opportunities for hardware, software and services in ICT is undoubtedly Ontario. Segments of this industry to consider include:

  • Telecommunications including internet, telephony, cable television and IPTV
  • Computers, tablets, server hardware and mobile devices
  • Computer software and related services
  • Digital media, mobile and web applications
  • Microelectronics and photonics

Chinese companies such as Lenovo and Huawei have had success in operating in Ontario. Ontario made significant effort to attract foreign direct investment from China into ICT and other industries.

  • Regional Innovation Centre (Mississauga)
  • Accelerator Centre (Waterloo)
  • Invest Ottawa

The Ontario Centres of Excellence recently hosted a contingent of delegate investors and companies from China to showcase Ontario ICT, clean technology and life sciences companies. Canada, and Ontario in particular, offer a number of opportunities for the ICT industry including:

  • World class communications backbone and bandwidth opportunity
  • Competitive talent/skilled employees and strong education system
  • Organizations like the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) which partner with universities
  • and colleges such as the University of Waterloo, Centennial College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)
